This section will open Monday 20 May for key stage 2 (KS2) schools to submit their teacher assessment data. Local authorities can also submit teacher assessment data on behalf of schools within their authority.

Academies and Free Schools

As part of their funding agreements with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), academies and free schools are required to comply with statutory moderation and monitoring requirements as set out in the 2019 key stage 1 and key stage 2 assessment and reporting arrangements.

Academies that converted after 2 September 2018 will automatically be part of their geographical local authority’s (LA’s) arrangements for the first academic year. However, in subsequent years, they can choose whether to use their geographical or an alternate LA.

You must have a written agreement in place with your chosen LA to confirm monitoring and moderation arrangements.

If you choose to have an agreement with an alternate LA, you must confirm this on NCA tools using the ‘Record local authority’ tab by Friday 14 December. If alternate LA details are not submitted, we will assume you have an agreement in place with your geographical LA.

Independent Schools

Independent schools that choose to participate in the KS2 tests must have a written agreement in place with a local authority (LA) for monitoring purposes. This is so STA can ensure that participating schools are adhering to the test administration guidance.

The process for independent schools to notify STA about which LA they intend to use is different from previous years.

If you do not submit this information in the ‘Record local authority’ tab by Friday 14 December, STA will remove your school’s test order and you will not receive KS2 test materials.

If independent schools wish to compare their TA in English writing with national or local data, their LA agreement should also include TA moderation arrangements.

Independent schools can choose to participate in the KS2 tests and not teacher assessment. Subsequently these schools will only need to have a written agreement in place with an LA for monitoring the tests and not TA moderation.
